A gorilla is a large, powerful ape that lives in the tropical forests of Africa. They are the largest of the primates and have massive bodies, long arms, and thick black fur. Gorillas are divided into two species: the western gorilla and the eastern gorilla, which are further divided into subspecies such as the lowland gorilla and the mountain gorilla.
Gorillas live in groups called tents, led by a dominant male, called a silverback because of the distinctive silver stripe on his back. They feed on plant matter such as leaves, fruits, and shoots, and spend most of their time walking on all fours on the ground.
Gorillas are known for their peaceful and calm nature, but can be aggressive when necessary to protect their group. Unfortunately, many gorilla populations are endangered due to hunting and habitat loss.
